Care Certificate

The Care Certificate is an agreed set of standards that sets out the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sectors. It’s made up of the 15 minimum standards that should be covered if you are ‘new to care’ and should form part of a robust induction programme.

3 Day Training Course

This 3-day course for all new care staff is designed to help the employer meet the CAS requirements. It will provide participants with basic coverage of each of the 15 Standards, with the exception of the employment based workplace training and induction requirements.

Participants need no prior knowledge or experience. They will gain a basic knowledge of the CAS requirements, which will be assessed at the end of the course. A copy of the assessment and its results will be given to the employer.

The 3-day course will include Medication Administration along with Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and can further include; Positive Behaviour Support Training, Positive Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA), Autism Awareness, Dementia Awareness and many other bespoke courses.

Positive Behaviour Support Awareness

In the last few years, PBS has developed from a process implemented by a small but committed group of people to a movement which is now embedded in government policy. It is the heart of the Department of Health policy document “Positive and Proactive Care” published in April 2014.
This half-day awareness course will look at

  • understanding the behaviour of the individual

  • assessing social and physical environments

  • developing support that improves the quality of life for the person and everyone around them.

  • ABC models of behaviour support and behaviour support plans.

  • Effective teamwork and communication as well as self-reflection.

Epilepsy Awareness

Symptoms and causes of epilepsy, medication and its effects. Talking about real-life scenarios and the management of Epilepsy
Delivery: Presentation Duration: 2 hours.

Equality and Diversity

Raise awareness of the differences and similarities that exist between people. To explore some of the underlying reasons for human behaviour that can result in people being treated differently. To learn the underlying concepts of “equality and diversity” including “stereotype”, “prejudice” and “discrimination”. To provide the basic information about UK anti-discrimination law. To understand your rights and responsibilities under the law and employers’ policies. To enable you to treat people with dignity and respect. Explore some of the ways people think differently and understand how this can contribute to the perpetuation of stereotypes and prejudices. Identify ways to challenge the way we think about valuing diversity in employment.

Delivery: Lecture Duration: 2-5 hours over one or two sessions.

Basic Life Support

Basic first aid including CPR, how to manage a responsive and unresponsive casualty, bleeding, stroke, fracture, heart attack and burns.

Mental Capacity Act with Deprivation of Liberties Safeguards

Explore the background of the Mental Capacity Act. Understand the Service User’s and Carer’s views. Explore whose work will be affected by the Mental Capacity Act. Safe and Secure Handling of Medication including Administration

Explain the legislation that controls prescribing, dispensing, administration storage and disposal of medicines. Identify the legal framework – how the organisation’s policies and procedures reflect these. Identify the classification of medicines. Describe the process by which medicines are prescribed, dispensed, and obtained by the individual and the worker’s role in this process.
